Quiltmaker’s Parade of Homes continues today with another quilt block giveaway.
This Home Sweet Home block was made by Helen Stubbings of Hugs ‘n Kisses. Helen hails from Hobart, at the very bottom of Tasmania, which is an island state at the very bottom of Australia. The fabrics are her own Basically Hugs and others from Red Rooster Fabrics. Helen has a giveaway on her blog, too.
She used applique and embroidery to add her unique signature to the design. I love it!
Helen has a unique product you’ll want to check out called Applique Paper, which she used for the applique on her block. Applique Paper by Hugs ‘n Kisses is a water soluble, single-sided, semi-transparent paper for glue stick applique, needleturn applique, English paper piecing, foundation paper piecing and temporary stabilizer. The paper is printable on an inkjet printer. A package has 20 sheets sized at 8.5″ x 11″.

We’ve enjoyed publishing Helen’s block designs for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. Here’s an example from Volume 8 called Fairy Floss.
Just as a reminder, the Parade of Homes and block giveaways are to celebrate our Sept/Oct issue, which has a house theme. We asked 12 quilt designers to make their own unique versions of Lori Holt’s Home Sweet Home block. You can see them all in the issue, or by following the Parade of Homes posts.
Now let’s give Helen’s adorable block away. Please leave a comment by midnight, Sunday, August 17 for your chance to win. Tell us briefly about your own experience with embroidery and applique. We’ll choose a winner for Helen’s block and a copy of the Sept/Oct issue of Quiltmaker. Visit Helen’s blog for another giveaway. The winner is #30, Wanda.
